HotFolk 2023 – Day Two
Twelve months in a single day
Shooting a calendar is always time-consuming, and it wasn’t possible to capture all the shots in a single day. Fortunately, we were able to schedule a second day for everyone involved, and I’m glad I could be part of it. The calendar is an inspiring project, combining the celebration of delicate feminine beauty with the setting of welcoming country cottages and picturesque nature.
On the second day, we went with the models to southern Bohemia, where the backdrop was a stunning rural timbered house. On the porch, I could almost smell freshly baked bread; a peaceful atmosphere enveloped everyone, and time seemed to slow down. The fairytale-like location, the charm of the models, and the traditional motifs foreshadowed hundreds of beautiful shots stored on the memory card. Choosing the best ones was a challenge.
The entire day was filled with a spirit of pleasant collaboration and maximum creative engagement. Capturing the legacy of traditions in a modern and original way is not easy—it requires imaginative composition and the timeless admiration humanity holds for tenderness and feminine beauty, whether women are dressed in luxurious gowns, traditional folk costumes, elegant suits, or momentarily shedding some layers.
Water as a celebration of life
With the charming cottage behind us and the fragrant meadow around, we had already captured many successful shots. But later in the afternoon, someone suggested adding a water element to the concept. A short walk led us to a slow-moving stream, and completely spontaneous shots emerged—without any prior preparation or styling. The girls didn’t hesitate to sacrifice a bit of comfort, willingly immersing themselves in the cool water.
The fantastic result came from the contrast between the frothy, clear stream and the delicate fabric clinging to the sensual female form. Water droplets gently traced their curves, and the sunlight reflecting off the ripples further highlighted the beauty of their décolletage and the details of traditional clothing. It was clear that this moment would become one of the highlights of the entire calendar.
A celebration of traditional values
The creation of the HotFolk 2024 calendar became not only a celebration of Czech traditions and a tribute to the charm of mountain cottages, but also a fresh interpretation of folklore, intertwined with nature and feminine beauty. The images tell their own story, where the legacy of the past intersects with the present. The resulting photographs are gentle and sensual, appealing both to lovers of tradition and to those who appreciate a new, imaginative perspective. The aim was to capture a part of folk culture’s heritage in its purest form, highlighted by the contrast with the beauty of contemporary women. Each shot carries a touch of originality and sensuality.
